Rhizomes
This website explores different ideas of diffuse connections; connections that are not straight lines, but rhizomally interconnected to myriad other ideas. It argues that these decentralized tendrils of connection are harder for one power structure to control. The diffuse biological rhizomes of mushrooms are a natural illustration of poststructuralist theorists Deleuze and Guattari's idea of rhizomal lines of flight. These two ideas of rhizomes are contrasted with the direct connectivity of the internet, which is being increasingly centralized by private content providers. Despite the internet’s form of appearance as a diffuse rhizomal space, it has material limited connections. The internet can be remade as a decentralized place for increased horizontal power with more rhizomal connections, resisting information verticality.
