YouTube Influencer Boot Camp

YouTube Influencer Boot Camp is a proposed multi-session virtual instruction module for teenagers and young adults ranging from 14-18 years old, nestled in New York Public Library’s Teen Tech program. The introduction to YouTube Influencer Boot Camp supports participant’s creative development of a YouTube persona while introducing concepts of platform literacy through discussions of YouTube’s Partner Program monetization policies. Developing a two minute script about current events adhering to YouTube’s monetization policies allows participants to experience how commodified content on YouTube is shaped by advertiser policies, challenging participants understanding of the “authenticity” of YouTube influencers. Full proposal can be found here.
